  • The month of the documentary film at the Alliance Française – 7th to 28th November

    The Alliance Française and the French Embassy in Sri Lanka and Maldives will participate next November, at the 18th edition of the Month of the Documentary Film, in partnership with the Institut Français. The Month of the Documentary aims to promote the documentary cinema to a large audience. Today, it is more than 2000 places which participate at this project, in France and abroad. Thus, one documentary film will be projected each Tuesday of November at the Alliance Française of Kotte in Colombo, in French version and subtitles in English. The entrance to each projection is free.

  • A French comedy about fraternity for the 10th edition of the European Film Festival – 12th to 17th October – National Film Corporation

    European Film Festival in Sri Lanka is an annual film festival held in Cololmbo, organized by The European Union Delegation in partnership with European Cultural Institutions and Diplomatic Missions in Colombo and New Delhi. The French Embassy and the Alliance Française de Kotte in Colombo in collaboration with the Institut Français will present the film Rosalie Blum by Julien Rappeneau on Sunday the 15th October at 3:30pm.

  • Jaffna International Cinema Festival 2017

    The 3rd edition of the Jaffna International Cinema Festival will take place from the 15th to the 20th of September. Its purpose is to reach and connect communities from all other the world through independent cinema. This year, the French Embassy and the Alliance Française will present a retrospective of the film director Agnès Varda and the film “Rosalie Blum” by Julien Rappeneau.

  • 2017 World Refugee Day Film Festival

    On the occasion of World Refugee Day 2017, the Embassy of France to Sri Lanka and the Maldives participates to the UN Refugee Agency (UNHCR) Film Festival to commemorate the strength, courage and perseverance of millions of refugees. From 23rd to 25th June 2017, at the National Film Corporation, 7 films and documentaries aim at raising awareness about the plight of refugees and fight préjugés.Two French movies Hope and Le Havre will be screened. Entrance is free and open to all!

    At the 70th Cannes Film Festival, Sri Lankan cinema was once again recognized through a documentary based on the Civil War "Demons in Paradise" and two short films.

  • A French-German co-production film series in Colombo!

    The Alliance française de Kotte and the Goethe-Institut Sri Lanka invite you to their French-German co-production film series, starting on Friday 28th April, until 9th June 2017 at 7pm. All films will be shown in their original language with English subtitles. Free entrance.

  • “Women and men” to celebrate Women’s day 2017

    In 2017, the Embassy of France in Sri Lanka and in the Maldives and the Alliance française de Kotte in Colombo celebrate the International Women’s Day with the documentary “Women and Men” (Des Femmes et des Hommes), from French director Frédérique Bedos and her NGO Le Projet Imagine/Humble Heroes.

  • Bonjour Cinéma! 2017 – Francophone Film Festival - Celebrating diversity and cultural dialogue with high quality movies

    Each year in March the « mois de la Francophonie » is celebrated all over the world. In Sri Lanka, the Embassy of France, the Embassy of Switzerland, the Embassy of Vietnam, Wallonie-Bruxelles International, represented by the Consulate of Belgium, the Canadian High Commission the Consulate of Tunisia, and the Alliance Française de Kotte in association with the Bandaranaike Center for International Studies (BCIS) and Agenda 14 have come together to present the Festival Bonjour Cinéma!
