5th oct 2005 : Signing of 3 agreements between France and Sri Lanka
On 6th October 2005, H.E. Mrs. Chandrika Bandaranayaka Kumaratunga, the President of the Democratic Socialist Republic of Sri Lanka will be received by H.E. Mr. Jacques Chirac, the President of the Republic of France on the occasion of her arrival in Paris for the opening of the General Conference of UNESCO.
On the occasion, 3 agreements have been signed between France and Sri Lanka:
Madame Brigitte Girardin, Deputy Minister for Development Co-operation, and Francophonie, and Mrs. Chitranganee Wagiswara, the Ambassador of Sri Lanka, in France signed an MoU in the presence of HE Chandrika Bandaranaike Kumaratunga, President of the Republic of Sri Lanka, on Wednesday 5th October in Paris relating to a water supply project for Trincomalee. This project will be financed by a concessionary loan from the French Ministry of Economy, Finance and Industry and will be in addition to the multi-sector reconstruction program implemented by the AFD (French Development Agency).
Ms. Chandrika Kumaratunga, President of Sri Lanka, and of Madame Brigitte Girardin, Deputy Minister for Development Co-operation, and Francophonie, signed an agreement for a loan amounting 64 million euros between the French Development Agency (AFD) and the Republic of Sri Lanka in favour of the reconstruction of the areas destroyed by the tsunami.
Mme. Brigitte Girardin, Deputy Minister of Development Co-operation and Francophonie signed the debt moratorium agreement for 2005 between France and Sri Lanka in Paris yesterday, in the presence of HE Mrs Chandrika Bandaranaike Kumaratunga, President of the Democratic Republic of Sri Lanka. This was in accordance with the agreement reached in January 2005 with the donors of the Paris Club, on the initiative of France.
