Bonjur Cinema! is a joint cultural event
organized by the Consulate of Belgium, the High
Commission of Canada, the Embassy of France,
the Embassy of Romania, the Embassy of
Switzerland, the National Film Corporation, in
association with the Sri Lanka Tourist Board and
media sponsors MTV-MBC Networks with the aim
of offering the Sri Lankan public a collection of films
that represent the richness and the diversity of the
cinema industries of the French speaking countries
represented in Sri Lanka

Short films highlight the Bonjour Cinéma 2007!

The competition offers an opportunity to showcase
the talents of young and amateur Sri Lankan film
makers. The five winning short films will be
presented on each evening at 7pm. The best short
film, selected by a jury comprising international and
local professionals, will be given an award. The
Master Class will give the opportunity to
international and Sri Lankan producers, film
makers to meet and exchange novel techniques
and new trends in Short film production in the
French speaking countries and Sri Lanka. In the
world of the short film, cultural diversity is no empty
concept.

Louise, esthéticienne au Mans, vient passer trois jours chez sa soeur Martine qui vit à Paris. Martine a apparemment tout! Tout sauf l’essentiel. Et l’essentiel, justement, Louise l’a! En l’espace de trois jours, Louise et son bonheur évident exaspèrent Martine au plus haut point et font voler sa vie en éclats.

Louise, a small town beautician, comes to spend three days with her sister Martine, who lives in Paris. Apparently, Martine has everything - everything except what really matters. And what really matters, Louise has it!
In three days time, Louise and her obvious happiness drive
Martine absolutely crazy and cause her life to fly to pieces.

Le Suisse Henry Dunant a mené un combat insensé pour
convaincre les Etats d’autoriser une société de secours qui
soignerait les soldats blessés, quelle que soit leur nationalité. Premier Prix Nobel de la Paix, Dunant est à l’origine de la fondation de la Croix-Rouge. Adaptation libre de sa vie, ce film, porté par le souffle de la passion est traité comme une épopée.

The swiss-born Henry Dunant led an insane battle to convince
nation states to allow a relief society to take care of soldiers who fell on the battlefield, regardless of their nationality. First Nobel Peace Prize, Dunant was the spark that led to the founding of the Red Cross Society.

C.R.A.Z.Y. raconte l’histoire de Zachary Beaulieu, de sa
naissance le 25 décembre 1960 jusqu’à l’âge adulte. Ce portrait de famille dépeint avec humour et fantaisie l’incroyable périple de Zac, quatrième d’une famille de cinq garçons auxquels il tente désespérément de ressembler. L’histoire touchante, sensible et drôle d’un petit garçon qui, pour ne pas perdre l’amour de son père, va renier avec acharnement sa nature profonde.

C.R.A.Z.Y. tells the story of Zachary Beaulieu, from his birth on December 25, 1960 to his life as an adult. Tinged with comedy and fantasy, this film offers a portrait of a family as it traces young Zac’s amazing journey through life. The fourth boy in a family of five boys, Zac tries desperately to become "one of the boys." C.R.A.Z.Y. is a charming, moving and funny story of a boy who, in order to hold on to his father’s love, eventually, and
bitterly, renounces his true nature.

Bruno Davert, an engineer worker in the papermaking industry,is a victim of the relocation of his company. He has been on thedole for almost two years, alternating between moments ofself-awareness and depression, and confronting the humiliationof job interviews. One day he has a somewhat drastic idea: to treat the "labor market" like any other market, in other words to do everything possible to eliminate all competition.

Intriguée par la disparition soudaine d’une vieille dame croisée dans une maison de retraite, Prudence, jeune grand-mère qui n’aime rien tant que s’imposer des missions dangereuses et impossibles, mène l’enquête, avec l’aide de son mari Bélisaire, dépassé par l’extravagance de son épouse.

A village that, behind all its gossip, hides a dark secret, a house split in half, tombs that are better left untouched, a doll that reappears from the past, a terrifying lawyer who wears a death mask. It will take some doing for Prudence and Bélisaire Beresford, who have Hercule Poirot’s patience and Agatha Christie’s humor, to uncover the astounding truth.

Père et Fils

Qu’on aime ou qu’on déteste son père, on n’en a qu’un. Alors
vaut mieux l’aimer ou le détester vivant parce qu’après, il est trop tard... Léo ne sait plus quoi faire pour retrouver les siens. Le destin l’aide un peu : il a subitement un malaise. Alors qu’il est sous observation à l’hôpital, ses enfants lui rendent visite. Finalement, cela a du bon d’être malade...Léo s’invente une intervention chirurgicale...grave.

Love them or hate them, you only have one family but you had
better love or hate them before it is too late. Léo doesn’t know how to keep his grown family together until a sudden, though minor illness gives him an idea. When all his children come to be with him, he feigns a serious condition and the family embarks on journey to Canada to rediscover each other, perhaps for the last time.

Master class on short film production

The master class will be conducted by Alexandre Charlet, eminent French producers who have specialised on short films. His work evolves around prominent short film authorities such as Unifrance and l’Agence du Court Métrage... The particularities and aspects specific to French short film making will be discussed and presented in perspective with the Sri Lankan production.

Short films from Romania

The selected six short films of different directors depict various simple aspects of life. The diverse themes and genres give the viewer an insight into the everyday events that usually go unnoticed. Through the films - Humanitarian Aid, A Trip to the City, Cigarettes and Coffee, Challenge Day, Traffic and The Apartment - one could have a glance of particularities related to the different aspects pertaining to Romania, its culture and people.

3 des principaux acteurs du soutien et de la promotion du court métrage en France - l’Agence du Court Métrage, le Festival International du court métrage de Clermont Ferrand et Unifrance - proposent une sélection de courts métrages récents, présentant la richesse et la diversité de la production, tant au niveau des formes que des sujets, révélatrices de la vitalité de la création cinématographique en France.

International Short Film Festival and Unifrance - present a

Show", dans le nord de la France. Elle rencontre DRIES, un
"porteur de Géant"... C’est le début d’une histoire d’amour ! Histoire d’amour, qui a d’étranges résonances avec le spectacle qu’elle joue sur scène...

Irène is on tour with the show "Dirty Affaire” in the North of France. There, she meets DRIES, a ‘’Herculean’’ man... This is the beginning of a love story! The moving story of love resonates rather strangely with Irène’s performance on the show...
