European Union: 60th anniversary of the Rome Treaty

The 27 heads of state or government of the EU’s member states met in Rome, Italy, on 25 March, for the 60th anniversary of the Rome Treaties signed on 25 March 1957. They issued the Rome declaration on the future of the Union.

In 1957, Germany, Belgium, France, Italy, Luxembourg and the Netherlands signed two treaties which marked the beginning of European integration. On 25th March 2017, the 27 heads of states or government of the EU’s member states issued the Rome declaration on the future of the Union.
