FOCUS event on Biodiversity and Human Conflict – May 23rd, HNB Auditorium [fr]
Our next FOCUS event will consist of a conference on “Biodiversity and Human Conflict: A Fragile Equilibrium”. For those who want to share ideas on biodiversity, May 23rd, HNB Auditorium, Colombo, on registration, in the presence of two prominent experts.
In the context of the International Day for Biological Diversity (IDB), and in collaboration with Biodiversity Sri Lanka and its Patron Member Hatton National Bank PLC, the Embassy of France proposes a conference event on biodiversity and human interactions.
This conference will be held on May, 23rd 2019, 3.30 pm at the HNB Auditorium, 22nd Floor, HNB Towers, 479, T.B. Jayah Mawatha, Colombo 10.
On this occasion, the Embassy of France has the pleasure to welcome two renowned researchers.
Dr. B.R. RAMESH, Affiliated Researcher at the French Institute of Pondicherry in India, presenting on “Ecological information system for biodiversity conservation and management”
Dr. Prithiviraj FERNANDO, Chairman of the Centre for Conservation and Research in Sri Lanka, presenting on “Elephant conservation and Human-elephant conflict mitigation”.

Protection of biodiversity is, along with climate change, a priority of France which hosted from April 29th to May 4th the 7th plenary session of the Intergovernmental Science-policy platform on Biodiversity and ecosystem services. The IPBES aims to strengthen exchanges between scientists and political representatives for a better conservation and sustainable use of nature, long-term well-being of humanity and for sustainable development. Preservation of primary forests and the adoption of mitigation measures for human-elephants conflicts, critically important for Sri Lanka, are part of this framework.
