French is not compulsory
France offers more than 1.300 teaching programs provided in English, from Business and Engineering, to Fashion and Arts. Therefore, it is not compulsory to be fluent in French to study in France.
Did you know that French is ranked as the 3rd language used for business? Coming to France and learning French mean being part of a wide network with more than 274 million French speaking people from all five continents.
Thanks to the LMD system, French degrees are recognised in the world. Studying in France offers the chance of working anywhere in Europe and worldwide!
Affordable price for excellent institutions
In France, students have a major asset: tuition fees are mostly paid by the Ministry of Education. Thus, in public universities, you will pay less than €500, health insurance included. Even in private universities, the costs would be around €10.000 at the most. Foreign students and French students are equals: they pay the same amount of money for the same degree. Furthermore, students can work part time to finance their studies and benefit from scholarships and housing assistance.
Discover France and Europe!
Take this opportunity to discover France and its lifestyle! Make the most of your free time by visiting the Eiffel Tower and the Châteaux of the Loire Valley, eating croissants and pains au chocolat, going to the theatre, going to a soccer game or to a concert. French heritage is very rich: 40.000 monuments, 44 UNESCO World Heritage Sites, 8.000 museums, 2.000 movie theatres and nearly 500 festivals.
Thanks to your student visa, you can reach any European destinations if you wish to visit Europe: Roma, Barcelona, and Vienna are only 2 hours away from Paris by plane! Living in France offers many more profits, such as a competent healthcare system from which you will benefit as well by enrolling in university.
France wishes to welcome more and more foreign students in the French higher education, as expressed by the President of France during his speech at the Institute of France on March 20th, 2018.
Campus France will be your best ally to guide you through the steps to study in France!
Campus France is a French national agency in charge of assisting students with the procedures to go to France for their education (choice of university, obtaining a visa, application for a scholarship and search for an accommodation). You can visit its website (www.campusfrance.org) or visit the Campus France stand at the Alliance Française de Kotte in Colombo (n° 11, Keppetipola Mawatha, Colombo 05). A new Campus France information corner will soon open at the Alliance Française de Kandy (n° 640, Peradeniya Mawatha, Kandy).
How to enrol in French universities?
If you wish to enrol as an undergraduate, after your A-Level, you will have to follow the “Demande d’Admission Préalable” (DAP) procedure. It consists in a form that you will have to hand over to the Cultural department of the Embassy of France in Colombo. To obtain this document, please contact Mrs. Himadri GUNARATHNE
However, if you wish to enrol in more elitist institutions (such as Preparatory Classes or IUTs) you will have to follow a selection procedure via the website Parcoursup (www.parcoursup.fr).
From the second year of university, and for Master’s degrees, you will have to contact directly the institutions you are interested in to know the enrolment procedure.
