H.E. Mr Jean-Paul MONCHAU inaugurated a new bridge constructed by the French consortium, UNIBRIDGE
On the 27th of July 2014, H.E. Mr Jean-Paul MONCHAU, Ambassador of France to Sri Lanka and the Maldives inaugurated a new bridge constructed by the French consortium UNIBRIDGE on the road between Ratnapura and Wewelwatta. The inauguration took place with the presence of Mr W.D.J. SENEVIRATNE, Minister of Public Administration and Home Affaires, Mr Philippe MATIERE, CEO of Matière company and Mr Alain BARUC, International Development Director of the EIFFAGE company.
Two French renowned companies, Eiffage and Matière have combined their know-how and potential to create Unibridge, a subsidiary for the marketing, manufacturing and construction of metallic, modular, permanent and rapid assembly bridges.
In Sri Lanka, 46 of these bridges will be built with the financial support of the French Government through a special program whose beneficiaries are a group of 20 emerging countries (Réserve Pays Émergent).
France wishes to contribute to the development of infrastructure in Sri Lanka and to promote French expertise on various regions of the country.
A bridge on a road between Ratnapura and Wewelwatta, leading to the historic and religious site of Adam’s Peak will be an important road link in this part of the country.
A bridge is also a symbol of the friendship between Sri Lanka and France. I am very pleased and honored to be a witness of this new achievement which will benefit to the people and the visitors of Sri Lanka.
