International Human Rights Day (December 10, 2014) [fr]
The French Republic’s Human Rights Prize was awarded yesterday to 5 associations working on the trafficking and exploitation of children and on the promotion of women’s access to positions of responsibility in political, economic, social and cultural spheres. The financial support associated with this prize will enable Bolivian, Egyptian, Laotian, and Madagascan NGOs to implement concrete projects. In addition, a “special mention” was conferred on 5 NGOs from Kenya, Nepal, Thailand, Vietnam and Venezuela in association with prize.
Our entire diplomatic network is involved in marking this anniversary. Numerous embassies are mobilizing their efforts. In Thailand for example, our embassy awarded its Human Rights Prize to an NGO engaged in the defense of civil and political liberties, “Thai Lawyers for Human Rights.” In Colombia, the ambassadors of France and Germany awarded, with the support of the UN, the “Antonio Nariño Human Rights Prize” to the association “Corporacion Reiniciar” which defends victims of the conflict between the government and the Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia and encourages national reconciliation.
