Message from the Ambassador [fr]
As I have presented credentials to His Excellency President Maithripala Sirisena, I measure the honor and responsibility that I have to represent my country in the Democratic Socialist Republic of Sri Lanka on this momentous occasion in its history.
Our countries maintain strong and trustful relations and I am confident that they will further strengthen in the future. Sri Lanka is facing many challenges today to maintain its economic growth, condition of its development - which is already noteworthy. These challenges require a collective commitment for the benefit of the entire population of the country in the tradition of pluralism of the Sri Lankan democracy.
France is convinced of Sri Lanka’s ability to strengthen its position in the region and in the world, exemplified by the contribution of Sri Lankan forces to peacekeeping operations. France will stand alongside Sri Lanka to develop its international actions and to cooperate on maintaining international stability. France is also looking forward to furthering our cooperation in favor of environmental protection, particularly through the projects funded by the French Development Agency, one of the major development partners in Sri Lanka and in the Indian Ocean.
The countries are there, with their history and their institutions, which are often different, but it is the Men and Women who build relations of friendship and cooperation.
I have the ambition, so that my mission is the most fruitful for our two countries, to meet the Sri Lankan people to make sure that I understand their wishes and their objectives.
HE Eric LAVERTU
