Message from the President Macron to His Excellency Mr. Gotabaya Rajapaksa, President of the Democratic Socialist Republic of Sri Lanka on the occasion of the Sri Lanka National Day. [fr]
Paris, February 8, 2021
Dear Mr. President,
On the occasion of the National Day of the Democratic Socialist Republic of Sri Lanka, I am pleased to extend to you my warmest congratulations on my own behalf and on behalf of the French people.
At a time when the Covid-19 pandemic is tragically affecting both our countries, you can rely on France’s solidarity in this ordeal. In this regard, you know my strong commitment to the mobilisation of the entire international community for the strengthening of health systems, research, production and distribution of tests, treatments and vaccines. The ACT-A initiative and its various pillars are meeting this challenge.
Your success in last summer’s parliamentary elections confirmed Sri Lankans’ commitment to peace and the vitality of Sri Lanka’s democracy. While your fellow citizens courageously endured the violence in civil war and the terrorist attacks on April 21, 2019, I know that you will be keen to strengthen social harmony prevailing in Sri Lanka as a foundation for inclusive and sustainable development.
In view of the long-standing and friendly relationship between our two countries, I am looking forward to the increasing prospects for cooperation in the infrastructure field (water, sanitation, energy) brought by the French Development Agency (FDA) with the support of your government. I welcome the successes of French companies that thus contribute to improve the well-being of Sri Lankans, such as the project to build and operate a seawater desalination plant in Jaffna.
While expressing my most sincere wishes to you, please accept, Mr. President, the assurances of my highest consideration.
THE PRESIDENT OF THE FRENCH REPUBLIC
