Seminar on french expertise in Public-Private Partnerships
A seminar on Public-Private Partnerships (PPP) titled « Opportunities for Sri Lanka - France Co-operation in Public-Private Partnerships for Infrastructure Development » was held on Wednesday 11th of September in Colombo.
This seminar was organized by the Economic Section of the French Embassy in Sri Lanka & Maldives in partnership with the Board of Investment. The objective of the seminar was to present the PPP related development opportunities for the country and promote the French expertise in this regard.
This seminar was a sequel to the “Symposium on French Expertise in Urban Development” organized in July by the Economic Section of the French Embassy in partnership with the Sri Lanka-France Business Council (SLFBC) of the Ceylon Chamber of Commerce.
Since the end of the civil war in 2009, the modernization and development of the infrastructure network of the country was a priority in the National Development Plan of the government and we have so far witnessed commendable progress in this field.
PPP is in fact an effective financing and management tool to improve Sri Lanka’s progress in a context where the country is experiencing a slowdown of concessional loan inflows from the international community due to its middle income country status.
Several French companies, with sound worldwide reputation in terms of implementation of PPP projects were present at this seminar: Bouygues, Suez-environnement, Veolia and Signes-paysage. The French Development Agency (AFD), the French Public Institution providing development financing was also represented at this seminar by the director of its Colombo office.
The forum undoubtedly served as a platform to showcase the French expertise in PPP to a local audience composed of representatives from both public institutions and private companies.
