The 5th Annual Consultation Meeting between AFD and Government of Sri Lanka took place in Paris, in July 2017
AFD welcomed for the first time a Sri Lankan delegation in Paris at AFD Headquarters for the 5th Annual Consultation Meeting between GoSL and AFD on the 11th of July, 2017.
The two Delegations had an open and useful exchange of views on GoSL and AFD strategies, on-going AFD funded projects in Sri Lanka and future development cooperation. A session was dedicated to PPP issues and a site visit was organized by SNCF International to a multimodal transport Hub in the center of Paris, in Saint-Lazare area. The meeting was co-chaired by Dr. Samaratunga, Secretary, Ministry of Finance and Mr. Pascal Pacaut, Director of AFD Asia Department of AFD.
Mr. Martin Parent, AFD Director in Sri Lanka, presented AFD’s new five year strategy in Sri Lanka for 2017-2021 which seeks to promote green growth and social cohesion in Sri Lanka. The main operational objectives of the strategy are to support the urban transition, to promote sustainable management of natural resources and to enhance the resilience of communities prone to hazards. Four types of operations will be supported in order to meet these objectives: (1) promotion of sustainable development for attractive and inclusive cities, (2) support to integrated management at the watershed level, (3) development of renewable energies and energy efficiency and (4) contribution to boost the Blue Economy potential.
Mr. Pellet, AFD Deputy CEO, expressed his confidence that the partnership between AFD and Sri Lanka will strengthen and develop for the benefit of Sri Lankan people, Sri Lanka Economy and Sri Lanka Environment, this latter being unique. He reminded that AFD’s mandate in Sri Lanka “green and inclusive growth” is fully in line with the French President Macron’s recent motto: “Let us make our planet great again”.
The members of the Sri Lankan delegation presented Secretaries and officials from several key ministries; National Policies and Economic Development, Megapolis and Western Development, Power and Energy, City Planning and Water Supply, Fisheries and Aquatic Resources and Irrigation. The ACM was participated by the Ambassador and Embassy Officials of Sri Lankan Embassy in Paris.
