“Women and men” to celebrate Women’s day 2017
In 2017, the Embassy of France in Sri Lanka and in the Maldives and the Alliance française de Kotte in Colombo celebrate the International Women’s Day with the documentary “Women and Men” (Des Femmes et des Hommes), from French director Frédérique Bedos and her NGO Le Projet Imagine/Humble Heroes.
The International Women’s Day 2017 campaign theme is #BeBoldForChange!
With her documentary, Frédérique Bedos takes us around the world, to meet bold women and men, who have all, in their own way, taken up the fight to stand up for women’s rights and equal opportunities.
You will hear the testimonies of women and men that unveil persistent, sometimes hidden, discriminations against women in various sectors, including law, justice, education, economy, but also religion or culture.
Based on facts and numbers, the documentary is a reminder of the need to uphold equality as the key driver for economic and social development for all. It has been screened on multiple occasions, at the UN Offices in Geneva and in New York, at the French National Assembly and at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. The project was supported by UN Women, the CEDAW, the FAO and the French Ministry for Families, Children and Women’s Rights.
On the occasion of Women’s Day 2017, join us, Wednesday 8th March 2017, at the Alliance Française de Kotte in Colombo, for a special screening of “Women and Men” from 6.30pm.
Entrance is free and open to all. Because change is all about all of us, women and men, acting together for common awareness, dialogue and community action.
